Peace In middle of the Storm

Friday October 17, 2014 Michael Dunn was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole of the 2012 shooting death of 17-year-old Jordan Davis.

Jordan’s mother, Mrs. Lucia McBath said “I too must be willing to forgive. And so, I choose to   f    forgive you Mr. Dunn for taking my son’s life.  I pray that God has mercy on your soul.”

March 24, 2012 Nicholas Lindsey, 17, was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the killing of St Petersburg Police Officer David Crawford.

Donna Crawford said in court, “…to me justice would be for me to do to you physically what you did to my husband.”

February 26, 2012 George Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin.

Mrs. Martin waited at home for her 16-year-old son to come back home from the store. 12 hours later she found out he would never come home again.

Trayvon’s mother said, “As Christians we have to forgive… it's a process, and we are still going through that healing process." "We know it's coming but we're just not there yet."

The Crawfords: Husband lost in as a result of series of bad decisions.

The Lindsey’s: future stolen.

The Martins: son’s gone, because of a wrong decision.

The Dunns:  future lost

But Jordan Davis and Trayvon Martin’s mothers put themselves in a position to be healed by their faith, during their storm.

Travon Martin and Jordan Davis mothers’  Christian walk was shaken by the loss of their sons, their souls traumatized by the news their sons would not be coming home again, but their faith in God, their stand on the Word of God, their solid rock,  allowed them to persevere in the middle of their storms.

The thief, whose program is to steal, kill and destroy, sought to claim victory not only by the deed itself, but also by the bitterness and unforgiveness felt by those affected by the deed.

We, the children of God, have a relationship with our Father.  We receive strength and peace from our God by faith

Hebrews 11:6 Without faith it is impossible to please God for to come to Him you must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

We practice the tools of Faith:

Speak to our Father. And to our mountain

Believe in His power, and the power of His Word

Act on His Word, and use His Word as our weapon and our shield

Receive the Fruit of the Spirit of God

Gal 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

And we need to pray

Isaiah 65:24 Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear.

We frequently face circumstances that try to take our peace from us

Like watching others have temporary success, when you know your work is better, and more deserving.  God’s Word will give you peace.

Jeremiah 29:11 “I know the plans I have for you.  Plans to prosper you, not to harm you.  Plans to give you a future and a hope.”

Proverbs 23:65 “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end leads to death.”

The storms of our lives can also be of our own making

Being disobedient to the Word of God

Listening to the word of man over the Word of God

No matter how or why the storms come, they sometimes come, and are very real.

They test our faith

They try our fortitude

They wrestle with our endurance

Jesus said in John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that kin Me you may have peace. lIn the world you 6will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, mI have overcome the world. ”

Before the storms come

Psalm 23: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green [1] pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anoints my head with oil; my cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Praise Him.

Remind yourself who He is, and what He can do for you.

Your rock, your strong tower, the righteous run in and are safe.

If God be for you, who can be against you.

He will uphold you with his mighty right hand

Don’t be afraid to ask, and do not ask in fear.

Psalm 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

Blameless doesn’t mean perfect; it means you purpose to pursue Him, based on His word.

Courage through trials

Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

2 Cor 1:20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so, through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God.
